I absolutely love what’s about to kickoff this Friday. I sure hope you know what I’m talking about. It only comes around every four years. Well, except for the mess in 2020 that pushed it back to 2021.
Whether you are a sports fan or not, the Olympics has something for everyone. It’s the best of the best in the world competing. The stories of setbacks, comebacks, loss and victory are incredible. The pride and love for country, the colors and flags on the front of the uniforms bringing people together–it’s magical and inspiring.
The Olympic competition epitomizes champion attributes of endurance, drive, commitment and excellence. It represents and reminds us of the power, strength, and limitless possibilities of the human spirit.
It’s the absolute best, and I’m pumped to catch as much of it as I possibly can with my boys.
So, what does all this bring to mind?
You can be Bad at what you do.
You can be Average at what you do.
You can be Good - which is probably God’s minimum expectation for whatever ability he gave you.
You can be EXCELLENT
You can be ELITE - which I think is ultimately God’s design and intention for each of us.
Whichever one you pick, you got to know this…
CHOICE – It's All About Choice
Everyone has a choice for what they want to do and how they want to do that.
Want to be Excellent or ELITE? You have do special things. You need special…
Intensity, Focus, Drive, Commitment, Passion
To do things at a high level and at a high standard - ALL THE TIME. Your God-given ability can make you good, but without the rest, you'll never be better.
NEVER DONE. ALWAYS BETTER!
Your biggest opponent? Entitlement, Comfort and Complacency. High achievers know that to perform at the highest level, you cannot stay the same.
Entitlement DESTROYS! Complacency is the enemy.
To be Excellent or Elite demands humility, respect, appreciation, dedication and Consistency in each. Stay Humble. Stay Hungry. Believe you can always Improve. You Are NEVER ABOVE THE WORK – Never Entitled to Success, NEVER!!! Everything must be EARNED ALL THE TIME!!
Once you have made the Choice to do the work, you must also possess the knowledge and attitude that NOTHING IS EVER OWED TO YOU or GUARANTEED!
CONSISTENCY IS GOLDEN
Let’s be clear, CONSISTENCY is not glamours, but it is GOLDEN. It doesn’t make headlines, but it is the backbone of Improvement, Growth, and Success. It’s what separates those that wish for it and those that work for it. The good from the GREAT! And the Great from the ELITE. Consistency is the ONE THING THAT CAN NOT BE COMPROMISED, Period! NO short cut. No quick fix. Success is a marathon, not a sprint. And the only way to get to the finish line is putting one foot in front of the other.
Rain or shine. During the good and the bad. Doing what needs to be done regardless of how you Feel. Regardless of how many “Championships” you’ve won. It’s not about motivation, that just gets you started. It’s about commitment and discipline. That keeps you going when the motivation wanes.
Don’t believe me? Imagine having to work day-in day-out for four years to earn the opportunity to compete for the chance to achieve your dream.
Remember, It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being consistent. Show up and do the work. Let your commitment dictate your actions. Allow the COMPOUND EFEECT to work in your favor.
No matter how good you are. No matter how talented you are. No matter how much you’ve achieved. You CAN’T Cheat the Work –in sports, in business, relationships, and in life.
Choose wisely, my friend, and know it’s a daily choice. You were made for it.
Let's Go For Gold,
Brock
P.S. Set your DVR, order plenty of dulci sweets goodies (e.g. chocolate drizzled caramel corn), and enjoy the most spectacular two weeks of human performance on the planet! GO USA 🇺🇸

Lessons from the book of James - Part Two
by Brock Meadows
on Jul 16 2024
We're continuing our encouraging series from James 1, and I'm thrilled to share more powerful life lessons with you. If you missed the previous lessons or want to revisit them, check them out here.
**Life Lesson #1: Show Smiles During Your Trials**
**Life Lesson #2: When You’re Stuck in Gear, You Need to Persevere**
Ready for more? Let’s do this!
**Lesson #3: Stand Stout and Don’t Doubt**
Ever feel like you’re adrift in a sea of conflicting advice? Google says one thing, social media says another, and every celebrity has an opinion. It’s exhausting! But let’s cut through the noise—James has some rock-solid wisdom for us.
James tells us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind” (James 1:5-6).
Think about that for a second. Doubt makes us unstable and indecisive. But when we ask God for wisdom and trust Him completely, He will guide us with clarity and strength. Don’t let doubt rob you of the wisdom and peace God wants to give you. Next time you’re in a bind, ask God for guidance and stand firm in your faith. Don’t waver—believe and act with confidence!
**Lesson #4: Listen and Do, Don’t Just Read it Through**
We live in a world obsessed with consumption. We brag about how many books we’ve read, but do we actually apply what we learn? The world says to consume without concern for application. Post a selfie with #FamilyIsEverything, but then spend all your time away from your family. OUCH! 😫 It’s all about appearances, right?
James cuts through this hypocrisy: “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like” (James 1:22-24).
Here’s a fun question: Do you know the words to “Ice, Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice? Of course, you do! It’s a classic. *Fun Fact Alert…I even danced on stage with Vanilla Ice a few years ago. No joke. “Word to your mother.” 🎙 And I’m positive Mr. Rob Van Winkle (a.k.a. Vanilla Ice) remembers it too. Lol.
Why do we remember this song so well? Because we listened to it repeatedly and practiced the moves. It became automatic. Okay, admittedly maybe more for some than others. But why don’t we treat God’s Word the same way? Read it, study it, practice it, and most importantly, live it out! Be intentional and consistent. Make God’s Word a part of your daily life, and watch how it transforms you.
James gives us practical wisdom that’s not just for reading but for living. Stand firm in your faith without doubt and actively live out God’s Word. These aren’t just nice ideas—they are life-changing actions that will bring you peace, wisdom, and fulfillment.
So here’s your challenge: Trust God fully and live out His teachings with purpose. Be the change you want to see in the world. Shine your light brightly, spread love, peace, joy, and hope wherever you go. Don’t just sit on the sidelines—get in the game and make a difference!
Signing and dancing with you,
Brock
P.S. Let’s embrace God’s Word with the same passion we have for our favorite songs—and our favorite sweets! Just as savoring each bite of Dulci Sweets' extraordinary chocolates brings joy, savoring God's Word can transform our lives and the world around us. Together, we can make this world a better place, one delicious step at a time! So let’s get moving—there’s no time to waste!

I’ve got some incredible life lessons to share with you from one of my absolute favorite books in the Bible—the book of James. This book is packed with straightforward wisdom, relatable analogies, and is the source for our company’s guiding verse: “Every good and perfect gift is from God” (James 1:17). So, let’s dive in and explore these gems together.
**Lesson #1: Show Smiles During Your Trials**
Ever felt like the world is telling you that trials are the worst? You don’t like your job? Quit. Annoyed with your neighbors? Complain about them. Jealous of someone’s success? Criticize them to feel better. But what if I told you that James has a completely different take?
James says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything” (James 1:2-4).
Joy during tough times? Sounds crazy, right? But here’s the deal: Trials aren’t just pointless suffering. They’re God’s way of building our character and making us stronger. Think about it—how boring would life be if everything were easy? We grow and learn the most when we’re pushed out of our comfort zones. So, next time you’re in a rough spot, try smiling through it. God’s got a plan, and He’s making you better every step of the way.
**Lesson #2: When You’re Stuck in Gear, You Need to Persevere**
The world tells us that if something isn’t immediately gratifying, it’s not worth pursuing. We’re bombarded with messages that encourage instant gratification and discourage perseverance. “It’s not fair,” we hear. “I want it now. I deserve it now.”
But James counters this mindset with powerful wisdom: “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him” (James 1:12).
Perseverance isn’t just about toughing it out—it’s about trusting God through the mess. And guess what? When we trust Him, we get peace that the world can’t offer. Imagine being calm and collected while everyone else is losing their minds. That’s the kind of peace God gives. It’s not just about surviving the storm but thriving through it because you know God’s got your back.
So, next time you’re tempted to throw in the towel, remember that persevering isn’t about being stubborn. It’s about having faith that God’s got something amazing on the other side. And trust me, His blessings are worth the wait.
As we chew on these lessons from James, let’s embrace our challenges with joy and perseverance. Every trial is a chance to grow, and every victory brings us closer to our best selves. Whether you’re climbing a mountain or walking through a valley, know that God is shaping you into someone extraordinary.
Next week, I’ll share even more life-changing lessons from James. Until then, keep smiling through your trials and trust in God’s plan. Remember, every good and perfect gift in your life comes from above, and He’s guiding you through it all.
Keep on keeping on with faith and peace,
Brock
P.S. When we realize that the valleys are meant to mature us, and the mountaintops are designed to encourage us, we can face anything with hope and resilience. Together, we can shine a light on what is good and positive, making the world a better place filled with Love, Peace, Joy, and Hope.

Ever notice how everyone wants to change the world? We all crave our 15 minutes of fame, whether it's through picture-perfect family photos or epic selfies on social media. We rant about the economy and politics, blaming everyone else for our problems and telling each other how to live better lives.
But is that really making a difference? Take my daughter's senior awards ceremony and graduation, for example. They highlighted individual achievements, which is great for those who truly went above and beyond. But let's be honest, we often celebrate mediocrity, too. Being average isn't good enough for me, and it shouldn't be for you either.
So, what does it mean to truly pursue greatness? The good book tells us that we're all uniquely created with special gifts and purposes. That's far from average! In the parable of the talents, the servant who did nothing was called wicked. Doing the bare minimum is like getting a participation trophy—it’s a symptom of our society's problem.
How can we tell students they're the future leaders without equipping them to lead? Have we failed to teach them to think for themselves, to strive for more, to value hard work and integrity? Why do we quit when things get tough?
When did “suck it up” and “ignore them” get replaced with “they hurt my feelings” and “I just don’t feel like it”? If you want something, go get it! Put in the work, the extra effort. Turn off the TV, stop binge-watching Netflix, and scrolling mindlessly on social media. Listen to leadership podcasts, read books about successful people, set goals, and go after them.
Once you achieve your goals, then celebrate! Independence Day is the perfect time to reflect on this. Our nation was founded on defiance and determination. Tell us we can't do something, and we’ll prove you wrong. So why not defy mediocrity?
This freedom we cherish, fought for and preserved by countless brave souls, gives us the unparalleled opportunity to pursue our dreams, to push boundaries, and to become the best versions of ourselves. Let’s honor their sacrifice by aiming higher and demanding more of ourselves by pushing beyond the tough and hard. Never settling. Choosing excellence.
As parents, grandparents, co-workers, and leaders, we have a responsibility to teach those in our circle to think and perform differently. That's how problems are solved, inventions are created, and leaders are made. It starts with you. Everyone wants to change the world, but to do so, you must be the change you want to see.
Celebrate Independence Day by embracing your unique gifts and striving for greatness.
Be the change,
Mike
P.S. It's the perfect time to reflect on the incredible freedom and opportunities we have in this great nation. Celebrate that and pursue your own greatness with the same courage and determination.

The Hidden Treasures in Your Problems
by Brock Meadows
on Jun 25 2024
Problems are a part of life. We all have them, right? But, do you ever think problems create opportunities? Sounds a bit crazy, but trust me on this. Norman Vincent Peale once said, "There is only one group of people that don’t have problems, and they are all dead." So, if you've got problems, you're alive and kicking! Embrace it!
Problems are like surprise guests—they show up unannounced, but they can bring unexpected gifts. So, how do we get the most out of these pesky problems?
First, let’s talk faith. Faith doesn’t dismiss problems; it sees the potential in them. Winston Churchill nailed it when he said, "The pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; the optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." Are you an optimist? Do you look for the silver lining? Successful people don’t have fewer problems; they just see them differently. They welcome problems because they know they’re the gateway to growth and opportunity.
Albert Einstein, a guy who knew a thing or two about solving problems, said, "In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity." Problems are like wrapped gifts—you have to dig in and get a little messy to find the treasure inside. Think about it: every innovation, every breakthrough, started as a problem. So, next time you hit a snag, remember, it's just a sign that something amazing is about to happen.
Let me share a story about my son, Camden. He's entering his freshman year and was pumped for his summer club track season, following his first spring season. But, a few weeks ago at the very first basketball open gym, he injured his ankle. Yup, sure enough, he rolled it and badly. Most definitely a grade three sprain, and high ankle sprain to make it even worse.
There goes the track season, and possibly his entire summer of training, practice and competition, including an important team basketball camp upcoming in two weeks that he was extremely excited about.
Of course, he was bummed. But instead of wallowing in disappointment, like his dad, Camden chose to see this as a learning opportunity. He went to the weekend team camp, supported and watched his teammates, and learned from the sidelines. He told me, “Dad, if I hadn’t injured my foot, I wouldn’t have realized all the mistakes I’ve been making. Watching the games and different players made it click – I’ve been making those same errors all along. This experience will definitely make me better and improve my game.” Now that's turning a setback into a comeback!
John Maxwell, a top-notch leader, shares three golden rules of problem-solving. First, believe there is always an answer. If you focus on solutions, you’ll find one. Second, every problem has a lesson. If you only lose if you don’t learn from it. Third, every problem creates an opportunity. It's all about the attitude you bring to the table.
So, how do you handle problems? Do you see them as barriers or as stepping stones? Our faith, optimism, and perseverance can turn any obstacle into an opportunity. It’s all about perspective. And remember, you’re not alone. We’re all in this together, facing challenges, and growing stronger every day.
As we navigate life's ups and downs, let’s commit to seeing problems as opportunities. Let’s stay positive, uplift each other, and spread joy and hope. And hey, let’s not forget to indulge in some extraordinary hand-crafted dulci sweets chocolate and exquisite curated candies. Life’s too short not to enjoy the sweet moments!
Your friend,
Brock

Do you find people fascinating? That’s the word I often use instead of frustrating. Do you find people to be difficult? Are you often saying to yourself, what in the world? Why would they do that? What were they thinking?
Yeah, me too. Oh, and naturally I’m always right. Is that you too?
Of course I’m being funny and maybe a tad bit exaggerated; possibly?
The truth is, when I feel that way or see such things that “fascinate” me, I get offended and upset. Sometimes downright angry. And that’s not healthy for me or for those around me.
AGAIN, not a topic or message you’ll ever receive from a typical, ordinary, everyday chocolate company, but from one that you can expect MORE from. One that wants MORE for you, and for many sweet reasons has become your absolute favorite.
All right, back to the originally schedule program. Lol.
If you can relate, I have a question for you.
How long is it okay to stay angry? Even if you are actually right, and justified in your anger.
I’ll give you a minute to think about that.
Looking to the good book for the answer, there is no righteous anger for humans. There is for God, but not us.
“When you are angry, do not sin, and be sure to stop being angry by the end of the day.”Ephesians 4:36
I’m not suggesting that we shouldn’t get bothered or angry, but I think it’s wise to not let it weigh on us mentally and physically so that it can eat away at us and cause damage.
“Whatever you do with anger, you can do better without it.” ~ Dallas Willard
Anger does not enhance judgement, it clouds it. Rather than hold on to the feeling, let it go, and allow it to propel you into action. You can have better judgment after you forgive, and still act to do the right thing.
1 Corinthains 4 - “I don’t know other people’s motives. I don’t even know my own. Therefore, I will have to leave it up to God in the end.”
We are all a pretty mixed up and messed up bag of things. People are broken, fragile, selfish, complicated, and really good at making things harder than they should be.
Here’s the thing…If we know this, and I can see you shaking your head in agreement, why do we act utterly stunned and surprised when it happens?
Instead, wake up every morning and remind yourself what God has done for you. Commit yourself each day to not be offended by people doing people stuff.
Pre-decide that you’re not going to be shocked again. No more!
Start each and every day with, “Lord help men forgive others as you have forgiven me.”
If you go into your day with this mentality, knowing your boss, your colleagues, your staff, this guy or that women, is going to do what he/she does, (that’s going to happen today)…forgive them in advance.
You are exercising Forgiveness in advance. This is called Discipleship. This is being more like Jesus.
Not because they deserve it, but because we don’t. And God gave it to us anyway.
Please do yourself a huge favor. Re-read the above statement. Know it, say it and start each day anew with it at the forefront of your mind.
If you know how this ends, you won’t become so frustrated or angry.
God is with us!!!
Your very good friend,
Brock
P.S. Got a friend who could benefit from this message? Please forward it to them and let's spread the good vibes together! (Because hey, positivity is always better when shared!)

An excellent dad is more than a provider and protector; he is a cornerstone of his family, embodying a myriad of virtues that shape the lives of those he loves. In a world that promotes comfort and convenience far more than sacrifice and hard work, happiness of the moment over preparation for the future, lord knows we need more men to step up to be excellent fathers.
This Father’s Day and beyond, let’s honor the men who embrace the monumental responsibility and profound gift of fatherhood. While encouraging the men around us with the wonderful truth – If you intend to be the man God created you to be and the man we need you to be, you absolutely have the means to do so. And it’s absolutely up to you, no one else.
The journey of fatherhood is not marked by an "easy button." There are no perfect fathers, just excellent dads who rise to the occasion with unwavering commitment. Every dad knows that no one-size-fits-all manual exists for parenting, and the trials are as unique as each child. Yet, it is this very unpredictability that defines the essence of fatherhood—a purpose-driven role that tests, challenges, and ultimately transforms a man.
An excellent dad is a tapestry woven with traits that reflect the depth of his character. Love is the thread that binds his actions, ensuring that his family feels cherished and valued. Patience allows him to navigate the turbulent waters of parenting with grace, understanding that growth takes time. Strength, both physical and emotional, provides a pillar of support during difficult times, while selflessness ensures that his family’s needs always come first.
Loyalty to his family is a hallmark of an excellent dad, fostering a sense of security and trust. Courage enables him to face adversities head-on, demonstrating resilience and determination. As a protector, he ensures the safety and well-being of his loved ones, creating a haven where they can thrive. Responsibility underscores his actions, knowing that his choices impact his family’s future.
Respectfulness shapes his interactions, teaching his children the importance of valuing others. An excellent dad is an advisor, offering wisdom and guidance that helps his children navigate life’s complexities. Consistency in his actions and words builds a stable foundation, while humility reminds him that fatherhood is a continuous learning process.
Dedication to his family’s growth and happiness is unwavering. Reliability means that his family can always count on him, and his trustworthiness instills confidence. Honorable in his deeds, he sets a moral example, while generosity reflects his willingness to give without expecting anything in return. Commitment to his role as a father is evident in his daily actions, demonstrating that he is fully engaged in the reality of his family’s needs.
The world desperately needs men who show up—not as passive spectators, but as active participants in their families and communities. An excellent dad understands that his legacy is a God-given role, one that shapes the future of those around him. Whether as a biological father, a surrogate father-figure, or a mentor, his influence is profound and far-reaching.
As one of my father friends, Lawrence Funderburke, said so well, “Children, irrespective of age or background, yearn for the AAA blessing from their fathers: affirmation, appreciation, and acceleration. Affirmation through love and support; appreciation through recognition of their value and purpose; and acceleration through instilling drive, determination, and discipline.” When this blessing is absent, children struggle to find their place in the world, often leading to a life adrift.
In today’s affluent society, the necessity of growing up has become optional for many, leading to a pervasive sense of meaninglessness. Historically, men had no choice but to grow up and shoulder responsibilities. Today, however, an excellent dad chooses to rise above the lure of entertainment and consumerism, embracing his role with purpose and conviction.
Here’s to the men who embody the virtues of an excellent dad. They are the protectors, providers, and mentors who shape the future, one family at a time. Their legacy is a testament to the strength, love, and dedication that define true fatherhood.
If you’re lucky to have a dad like that, you are blessed. If you are one – Thank You!
Keep showing up,
Brock
P.S. Be sure to Celebrate the Awesome Dad and Father Figures in your life with Delicious Chocolate and Sweet Gifts. All the cool dad’s love dulci sweets. 😊

Did you hear about that powerful video message from Academy Award winning actor Anthony Hopkins that's been making the rounds? It's called "I Asked God," and it packs a serious punch. When I watched it, I felt like I was getting a wake-up call about life's challenges and what they really mean. If you haven't seen it, let me break it down for you.
Here's the message:
“I asked God to take my habit away, He said no. It’s not for me to take it away, it’s for you to give it up.
I asked God to grant me patience. God said no. Patience is a byproduct of tribulations. It isn’t granted. It is earned.
I asked God to grant me happiness. God said no. I give you blessings. Happiness is up to you.
I asked God to spare me pain. God said no. Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares, and brings you closer to me.
I asked God to make my spirit grow. He said no, you grow on your own. But I will prune you to make you fruitful.
I asked for all things that I might enjoy in life. God said no. I will give you life so that you may enjoy all things.
Then I asked God to help me love others as much as God Loves me. He said, finally, you get the idea.”
At first, it's easy to think God is shutting us down, saying, "Nope, not happening." But it's not rejection; it's redirection. Think about it—what if we asked God for strength, and instead of giving us the easy path, He laid more obstacles in our way? It can seem harsh, but maybe it's because He wants us to build strength, not just use it. It's like asking to become a great pianist without ever touching a keyboard—how's that going to work?
Take patience. Everyone wants it, but nobody wants to earn it, right? But patience isn't a handout; it's something we develop through trials and setbacks. Think about the last time you were stuck in traffic or waiting for a business deal to close. Did you feel patient? Probably not. But those moments are where we learn the most.
Happiness? That’s a tricky one. You'd think it’s about getting what you want, but God says, "I give you blessings. Happiness is up to you." It’s a reminder that happiness isn't something you find; it's something you create. It’s a choice, like deciding to smile even when you're in a bad mood. It's choosing to count your blessings even when things aren't going your way.
And then there's suffering. Nobody wants to suffer, but it's where we grow the most. God says suffering draws us apart from worldly cares and brings us closer to Him. It's like a reset button for our spirits. Yeah, it hurts, but it strips away all the distractions and leaves us with what really matters.
The most beautiful part, though, is when we ask God to help us love others the way He loves us, and He says, "Finally, you get it." It’s that moment when everything makes sense. It's not about what we get from God; it's about what we give to others. It’s about relationships, community, charity, and lifting each other up.
So, what does this mean for us entrepreneurs, business leaders, parents, and faith-centered folks? It means our journey is our lesson. It means every struggle, every setback, every heartbreak is shaping us into better, stronger, and more compassionate people. It means that when God says no, He’s really saying, "Trust me, I’ve got a plan, and it’s better than you could imagine."
Let's embrace the journey, with all its bumps and turns. Let's keep pushing, striving, and growing. Because when we look back, we'll realize it was all worth it.
Take care, and remember to keep your heart open to God's plan. It might not be what you expected, but it’s always what you need.
Your Friend,
Brock
P.S. If you haven't seen it yet, watch Anthony Hopkins' powerful "I Asked God" video HERE It's truly inspiring!
P.S.S. Father's Day is coming up. We know Dads are hard to shop for…
He often won’t tell you what he wants. Good thing we know it’s time with his family and some amazing chocolate. 😊

The idiom "freedom isn't free" expresses gratitude to the military, acknowledging that the freedoms many citizens enjoy are only possible through the risks and sacrifices of military members.
Our Freedom’s are possible only through the risks taken and sacrifices made by those in the military.
For many Americans, Memorial Day marks a fun-filled long weekend and the unofficial start of summer.
However, the holiday was created for a much more solemn purpose: commemorating the U.S. military personnel who died serving our country.
In light of this meaningful history, it's important to remember the real reason for the holiday — rather than simply celebrating the extra day off work or that many pools are now open.
In honor of the Memorial Day holiday, her are 3 key takeaways all Americans should consider and appreciate.
If there’s one thing that Memorial Day reminds us, it’s that our freedom didn’t come cheaply.
Brave men and women preserve the freedom we sometimes forget to appreciate.
Their sacrifice and strength is what America has honored for a century and a half. And it is that which gives so much meaning to this Memorial Day.
For many Americans, the Memorial Day weekend means a backyard cookout with family and friends. Some head to the beach or to a neighborhood park.
Others, recalling the meaning of the holiday itself, visit the graves of fallen soldiers, bearing flowers and wreaths. Some salute individuals they never met, while others mourn the loss of a personal hero.
The list of possible activities could go on, but ask yourself: What do they all have in common? Simply this: It’s your decision how you mark Memorial Day. Because you are free.
And if there’s one thing that Memorial Day reminds us, it’s that our freedom didn’t come cheaply. Many Americans gave what President Abraham Lincoln called “the last full measure of devotion” so that liberty could continue to ring from, yes, sea to shining sea.
It’s all too easy, especially for those of us blessed to have grown up in this great land, to take our liberty for granted. We forget that freedom isn’t free. It must be paid for, and not just once.
Again and again, Americans have stepped forward in a moment of crisis and put their lives on the line.
It’s their sacrifice we mark on Memorial Day. And while we feel so much sadness for their loss, I think there is something else we should consider when we recall those who fell in battle.
It comes down, I believe, to what motivated those brave men and women to do what they did. Imagine walking towards danger and possible death when every fiber of your body is screaming at you to seek shelter. What makes you march toward the guns rather than flee from them?
A soldier, it is said, fights not because he hates who is in front of him, but because he loves who is behind him.
Those we commemorate on Memorial Day fought for mothers and fathers. For sisters and brothers. For sons, daughters, comrades, and all others they held dear.
They fought for our liberty and land, too, because they knew America is worth fighting for.
And for the last 150 years, we have given them the honor they so richly deserve.
On May 30, 1868, future president James A. Garfield spoke at Arlington Cemetery for the first national commemoration of what was then known as Decoration Day, and his words resonate to this day:
“We do not know one promise these men made, one pledge they gave, one word they spoke; but we do know they summed up and perfected, by one supreme act, the highest virtues of men and citizens. For love of country they accepted death, and thus resolved all doubts, and made immortal their patriotism and their virtue.”
We now live in an era marked by political division and social strife. Love of country is considered old-fashioned by some. So too are patriotism and virtue.
But those who feel that way forget the liberty they enjoy to express such sentiments was won by patriots who felt very differently. And it is safeguarded today by service members who do so, too.
Those brave men and women preserve the freedom we sometimes forget to appreciate. They do it for the love of their family, friends, and community. But they also do it for their devotion to each of us and the nation of which we are all a part.
Their sacrifice and strength is what America has honored for a century and a half. And it is that which gives so much meaning to Memorial Day.
Each of us, as Americans, have what we have, and the blessings are many, because people in generations before chose to Fight - Giving All They Had and More.
I'm grateful today and everyday for their sacrifice.
Brock

Picture this: a sea of pink, a cacophony of cheers and laughter, and a palpable sense of hope and determination in the air. This isn't just any event - it's the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, a beacon of light in the fight against breast cancer. And let me tell you, if you've never been, you're missing out on something truly extraordinary.
As I stood amidst the crowd of people in the Hope Village area, serving up our special chocolates as gifts to hundreds of incredible survivors courtesy of the love and generosity of the Karen Gandarillas Legacy, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of emotions. It's not just about the sweets or the fundraising; it's about the people - survivors, fighters, and those we've lost. Their stories, their courage, and their resilience is incredibly inspiring.
At the heart of it all lies three essential virtues: faith, love, and hope. These aren't just words; they're the lifeblood of our existence, the guiding stars that lead us through even the darkest of times.
First and foremost, there's faith. It's the unwavering belief in something greater than ourselves, the trust that carries us through the toughest of storms. As Corrie ten Boom once said, "Faith sees the invisible, believes the unbelievable, and receives the impossible." It's the anchor that keeps us grounded, the light that banishes fear and doubt.
Then there's love - pure, unconditional, and eternal. It's the force that binds us together, the essence of our very being. Jesus himself commanded us to love one another as he has loved us, and that's a pretty powerful call to action if you ask me. Love isn't just a feeling; it's a choice, a decision to extend grace and compassion to those around us.
And finally, there's hope - the confident expectation of better days ahead. It's the light at the end of the tunnel, the promise that keeps us going when all seems lost. With hope in our hearts, we can overcome any obstacle, scale any mountain, and emerge victorious on the other side.
But here's the thing - we can't do it alone. We need each other, now more than ever. So I urge you, my fellow warriors in this battle against breast cancer, to keep stacking up the prayers, to keep shining your light in the darkness, and to keep spreading love and joy wherever you go.
And if you feel called to do more, if you want to make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by this disease, I invite you to join us in our mission to end breast cancer forever. Visit komencolumbus.org and select "Komen Columbus" or "2024 Komen Columbus Race for the Cure" to donate and get involved.
Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can bring an end to breast cancer. Together, we can stand strong for others and shine brilliantly bright in the face of adversity.
With faith, love, and hope as our guiding lights, there's nothing we can't accomplish. So let's lace up our shoes, raise our voices, and march forward with courage and conviction. The future may be uncertain, but one thing is for sure - with each step we take, we're one step closer to a world without breast cancer.
Shine on, my friends. The world is counting on us.
With love and hope,
Brock
P.S. Join us in spreading light and joy as we stand strong for others in their time of need. Before making a donation, first select “Local Events”. Turning 50 is a milestone filled with nostalgia, gratitude, and just a hint of disbelief. I've spent half a century on this earth, and though I'm far from having all the answers, I've certainly picked up some wisdom along the way. Reflecting on my journey, I understand the meaning behind the saying, "We enter this life looking like our parents; we leave this life looking like our decisions."
This idea is echoed in Galatians 6:7: "Be not deceived, God is not mocked, whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." It's a straightforward yet profound reminder of the power of our choices and how the paths we choose shape our lives.
When I was younger, I used to think that 50 was ancient—a time when you'd be slowing down, maybe wearing a cardigan and sipping tea. Now that I'm here, I realize just how wrong I was. It's not a time for slowing down; it's a time to speed up, to chase dreams, and to embrace the wisdom that comes from five decades of living, loving, and learning.
Let me tell you, life has thrown some curveballs my way. I’ve survived a car accident that required me to be life-flighted, had a plane propeller nearly take off my arm and/or my head giving me 120 stitches, confronted cancer, and witnessed the downfall of a thriving business that I worked over a decade of my life to build. Each of these moments tested me, pushed me to my limits, and ultimately made me stronger. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that life doesn't follow a straight line. It twists and turns, sometimes leading us into dark places, but always with the possibility of finding light on the other side.
So, what's the secret to making it to 50 with a smile on your face and a heart full of hope? For me, my faith in God is the foundation from which everything originates and flows from. This too, is a work in progress, but it directs my attention to start with kindness. Yes, simple, everyday kindness. I believe in speaking kindly, loving fully, and living completely. These aren't just words—they're a way of life. It's about treating people with respect, giving without expecting anything in return, and moving through the world with purpose and humility. And let's not forget about gratitude. If there's one thing I've learned over these 50 years, it's that gratitude is the key to happiness.
When you face challenges, it's easy to get caught up in the negativity, to focus on what's going wrong instead of what's going right. But I've found that when you take a moment to count your blessings, the world starts to look a little brighter. I’m forever grateful for my family, my friends, and the lessons I've learned along the way. I'm grateful for every setback, because it's in those hard and, often painful moments, that I grew the most.
Another big lesson I've learned is the importance of forgiveness. Let's be real—this is tough and holding onto grudges is exhausting. It’s like carrying around another person, twice your size. I choose to forgive, not because the other person necessarily deserves it, but because I deserve peace. When I let go of anger, I make room for the good in my life; experiencing more joy, laughter, and love.
Now, let's talk about freedom. Not the kind of freedom that comes with age, but the real kind—involves attention and awareness, and discipline and being able to care for others, sacrificing for them, and being willing to give without expecting anything in return. True freedom means you’re not bound by resentment or fear. It's about being able to think for yourself, to challenge the status quo, and to find joy in the little things.
As I look ahead to the next 50 years, I know there will be more challenges, more curveballs, and probably a few more stitches. But I also know that there's so much to look forward to—new adventures, new friends, and countless opportunities to make a difference in the world. That’s our full dedication here at dulci sweets. I’m excited about what the future holds, and I hope you'll join me on this journey.
So, here's my advice to anyone approaching their 50th birthday: Embrace it. Celebrate it. Live every day with intention, laugh often, and be a light to others along the journey. And when life throws you a curveball, trust that something positive will come from it. Look for the possibilities (a.k.a. silver lining), because it's there, waiting for you to find it.
Happy 50th to me—and here's to the next 50 years and the wisdom that each new day brings.
Your 50 year old friend,
Brock
P.S. Do all you can with all you have been given, consistently and thankfully. Leave the rest to Good Lord above.

Mother's Day is more than just a date on the calendar. It's a moment to honor the incredible women who shape our lives. A mother's love is powerful—so powerful that it can change the course of our day with just one word.
For me, Mother's Day is a reminder of the unconditional love that exists in the world. It's the kind of love that holds you when you're falling apart, that believes in you when you doubt yourself, and that guides you back to your center when you've lost your way. Proverbs 31:25 describes it perfectly: "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."
Isn't that the essence of a mother's love? The strength to face anything, and the grace to do it with a smile.
During my high school years I specifically remember a couple painful moments when I had experienced significant setbacks. Each time I felt defeated and unsure what came next. My mom knew I was hurting, but didn't ask a lot of questions; instead, she wrapped me in a hug and said, "It's okay to feel this way. But remember, you're stronger than you think, and this won't last forever." She would stay by my side talking about everything and nothing at all. Within a hour or two, I felt like I could take on the world again and overcome the pain of the moment.
That's the beauty of a mother's love—it has the power to heal. When everything seems dark and hopeless, a mother's words can light the way. They give us the strength to keep going, even when we want to quit. It's a love that transcends time and space, bringing us back to our center. And isn't it amazing how they seem to know exactly what we need, without us saying a word?
My mom always made me believe that I could accomplish anything. She never doubted my abilities, even when I did. There were times when I was ready to throw in the towel, but she knew better. She pushed me to keep going, to never give up, and to always believe in myself. It's because of her that I am who I am today. And isn't that what every mother does? They lift us up, even when we can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.
So, on this Mother's Day, let's take a moment to thank the moms in our lives. Let's celebrate the love they give so freely, the sacrifices they make without hesitation, and the strength they show in every situation. They are the heart and soul of our families, the glue that holds us together. Without them, we wouldn't be where we are today.
If you're lucky enough to have a mom like mine, someone who has always believed in you, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. Let's cherish these moments and hold onto them tightly. Because a mother's love is not just for a day—it's forever.
So, what's one thing your amazing mom made you believe about yourself? For me, it was inspiring belief. And I can tell you, it's a gift that lasts a lifetime.
Happy Mother's Day to all the incredible moms out there. That includes my absolutely Incredible, Beautiful, and Amazing wife/MOM to our boys. You are the unsung heroes, the silent warriors, and the hearts of our homes. Thank you for everything you do. We love you more than words can say.
Celebrating Mom’s Everywhere,
Brock
P.S. This Mother's Day, don't forget to make her feel as sweet and beautiful as she truly is. Give her gifts that allow her to indulge a bit, and show her just how much she's cherished.

You know that golden rule your grandma always preached? "If you can't say something nice, zip it!" Well, turns out, Granny was onto something big. This principle isn't just about sparing someone's feelings—it's a game-changer for our entire outlook on life. By ditching the negativity and embracing positivity, we're not just making the world a better place—we're unlocking our own potential for greatness.
Negativity, in its various forms, can be likened to a shadow that dims the brightness of our existence. It lurks in our minds, homes, workplaces, and social interactions, casting a dark cloud over our relationships and endeavors. However, amidst the chaos and uncertainty of the modern world, the beacon of positivity shines ever brighter, offering solace, hope, and resilience.
In the pursuit of building and nurturing meaningful connections, negativity emerges as the greatest adversary. Its’ insidious influence taints our thoughts, colors our perceptions, and sows seeds of discord in our interactions. Thus, it becomes imperative to cultivate a mindset that accentuates the positive, fostering an environment conducive to growth, harmony, and success.
Consider the analogy of a wise monkey discerningly devouring a ripe banana, discarding the peel to savor the nourishing fruit within. Similarly, we are urged to relinquish the "peel" of negativity, redirecting our focus towards the abundant reservoir of positivity that surrounds us. By doing so, we not only nourish our own spirits but also radiate warmth and light, drawing others towards us like magnets.
Yet, the journey towards accentuating the positive is not devoid of challenges or setbacks. It requires a conscious effort to reframe our thoughts, words, and actions in a manner that reflects the radiance of positivity. That often includes recognizing negative talk, energy, and actions and choosing not to participate.
Yes, you know what I’m referring too – that ever-present and viciously destructive beast that lingers around every corner – Gossip.
Imagine a world where we all just kept our lips zipped and focused on the stuff that really matters—like building trust, fostering creativity, and kicking butt at whatever we are doing. Yeah, it's not just a pipe dream. It's a world we can create together, simply by refusing to take offense and shutting down the gossip train before it even leaves the station.
So, next time you find yourself tempted to dish the dirt, ask yourself: is this really worth my time and energy? Or could I be using this moment to elevate myself and those around me?
Trust me, the answer is crystal clear.
When life throws you a curveball and you sense negative vibes multiplying faster than rabbits in springtime, remember to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative. It's not just a catchy tune—it's a mantra for success, happiness, and all-around awesomeness.
Now go out there and show the world what you're made of!
Until next time, Stay Positive.
Brock
P.S. Negativity, gossip, and taking offense? Yeah, we've all been there. But together, we can rise above and spread a little more joy in the world.
P.P.S. Got a friend who could use a dose of positivity? Forward this message their way and let's spread the good vibes together! (Because hey, positivity is always better when shared!)

We all crave peace, don't we?
In a world filled with turmoil and unrest, demands and deadlines, the pursuit of peace becomes a paramount endeavor. We all yearn for that tranquil haven where the storms of life cease their relentless battering, and serenity reigns supreme. But how do we attain such a lofty goal? How do we make peace not just a fleeting visitor, but a permanent resident in our lives?
Consider this: happiness often springs forth from the well of peace. It's the sense of calm that settles in our hearts when we align with our true selves, when we utilize our gifts and talents to their fullest extent. It's about living authentically, striving to fulfill our purpose, and ultimately glorifying God in all that we do.
So, where do we begin this journey towards peace? It starts with a fundamental shift in perspective. We must recognize that the status quo will not lead us to a different outcome; change requires intentional action.
Doing the same thing and expecting a different results is Insanity.
We must cultivate an unwavering commitment to seeking out opportunities for growth and transformation, even in the most mundane moments of our daily lives.
Think about it. From the bleary-eyed mornings to the quiet moments at the stoplight, from the hustle and bustle of work to the reset pauses in between, there lies an opportunity to infuse our lives with peace.
At the heart of this pursuit lies the practice of prayer. Ah, prayer! The gateway to divine communion, the lifeline connecting us to the source of all peace.
It's not just a ritualistic recitation of words; it's a sacred dialogue with God. As we turn our hearts towards God in prayer, we open ourselves up to receive divine guidance, comfort, and strength. We acknowledge our dependence on Him, entrusting our hopes, fears, and dreams into His loving hands.
Scripture exhorts us to "pray without ceasing," to maintain an attitude of continual communion with God. Through prayer, we surrender our burdens, our anxieties, and our uncertainties, allowing God to work His transformative power in our lives. We intercede for others, lifting up their needs and concerns before the throne of grace, knowing that God hears and answers every prayer according to His perfect will.
But prayer is not just about asking; it's also about listening. In the stillness of our hearts, God speaks to us, offering words of wisdom, comfort, and encouragement. He reminds us of His unfailing love and faithfulness, assuring us that He is always with us, guiding us along the path of righteousness.
As we cultivate a habit of prayer, we begin to experience a profound sense of peace that transcends our circumstances. It's a peace that surpasses all understanding, anchoring our souls in the unshakeable foundation of God's love and grace. Even amidst the storms of life, we find solace in the knowledge that God is sovereign, and His plans for us are good.
So, let us not grow weary in our pursuit of peace. Let us commit ourselves wholeheartedly to the practice of prayer, knowing that in God's presence, we will find the peace our souls so desperately crave. As we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us, filling our lives with His peace, His joy, and His unending grace.
If you desire greater peace in your life, it begins with intentionality. Take deliberate steps to redirect your focus towards the peace you seek.
Remember, what you choose to focus on has the power to shape your reality…
Guard your thoughts and emotions diligently, for they hold the key to your inner peace. Stay vigilant, stay committed, and above all, persevere in your pursuit of peace. With unwavering determination and steadfast faith, you will surely find the peace that your heart longs for.
Wishing you greater peace and purpose,
Brock
P.S. Doing all you can with all you have been given, where you are, and in all that you do requires your full attention and very little room for shenanigans.

If you want advice on your health, wealth, relationships, and finance, there’s not a shortage of self-proclaimed experts on every social media platform to pick from.
As your friend and trusted go-to sweets partner, just be aware of the rampant insanity and gobbledygook.
From espousing cold plunges, red-light therapy, yellow glasses, drinking alkaline water, using essential oils, walking barefoot, crystal rubbing, magnet therapy, and the list goes on and on.
Look, do whatever you want and use whatever you believe works for you. I’m not here to tell you what works and what doesn’t work for you. What I will offer is the possibility that none of that is necessary – none of it!
How so you ask? Hang with me…
It comes down to the first principle; to increase my success I have to do more of ‘X’, that’s it. Anything that is not me doing ‘X’ is detracting me from my ability to do so.
I suggest a lot of these items and rituals just cause and allow for procrastination and ultimately detracts from people doing ‘X’. And I confidently assume you know what ‘X’ is for you to hit your marks and be more successful. If so, You need to do more of ‘X’, period!
The follow up question to that is when you get up each morning, how fast can you get to work on ‘X’ and how long can you stick with it? How fast can you improve and become excellent at doing it?
Everything else is procrastination, delay, and distraction. Now, if you need to do some of those things to help you do ‘X’ – that’s fine. No judgement. We all have our things.
Just be honest with yourself, it is not what produces success.
Be careful who you listen to, and the source of information you give your best attention to. Turn down the noise and be intentional with your choices. Like this weekly 2-3 minute read. Lol.
Look at the most successful people in history, while on their journey to becoming successful. They didn’t cryo, cold plunge, hang upside down, use IV drips, etc.. They were ferociously focused and committed to doing ‘X’ – faster, longer, better, period!
So the next time you find yourself searching for the next hack, trick or new scientific theory, remember the classic acronym and statement: K.I.S.S. = Keep It Super Simple
Far more often than not…Simple Succeeds. Fancy fails.
Success is a lot simpler than we often make it and we often believe. What’s hard, is getting yourself to do ‘X’ consistently, long enough for the compound effect to take hold.
My interpretation of the compound effect is doing ‘X’ which includes the small things that often go unnoticed, and most won’t do, that when done consistently, with excellence, produces the Big results everyone sees and wishes they had.
You choose, it’s your option. Include those things or skip them and simply solve for ‘X’.
What is the X factor to your success? No matter what you do for a living, at the end of the day, we only get paid for the results we produce or don’t produce.
Keep it simple rock star,
Brock
P.S. Experts and professionals simplify. Beginners, Amateurs and Wannabe’s make it complicated. This is why we make it so simple and easy to let the people in your world know how much you value them by surprising them with a sweet gift.
