Celebrating National Sons Day

This is a National Observation day that I sincerely believe is worth giving great attention to. As dad’s of boys, I also think both Mike and I are qualified to talk about it.

Mike has a 17 year old son. I have two boys, the oldest 13 and the younger son is 9.

And while National Sons day is celebrated by all parents, grandparents, friends, coaches and more, I feel it’s particularly important for us dad’s to be certain not to miss this.

And here’s why….

This world has done lost its mind. Flipped its lid, one might say.

The past couple of years our main stream media and entertainment world is trying to do a bang up job to destroy not only the nuclear family, but dismantle the patriarch.

News Flash - Homes where dad is not present and actively engaged in raising his children, the potential for, and greater likelihood of significant behavior issues exists.

Looking up a few articles on previous National Sons days, I came across delusional statements such as, “Luckily, as society incorporates “emotional” equity in the workplace and at home, we’re all redefining what it means to be a good son — and a good man.”

Excuse me?!? Can anyone reading this tell me what’s wrong with the current, long standing definition of a “good son”?

Furthermore, why do we need to change what it means to be a good son, when a lot of what the current society is telling everyone, son or daughter, is to do whatever you want, however you want, based on how you feel at the moment… just as long as it doesn’t hurt someone.

Where moral standards bend so easily with the times, it critical for us to raise strong, honorable, God Loving and God Fearing sons.

In my personal opinion, society is trying to “change” and “redefine” many definitions that is excusing the root problems and deceiving us to believe many falsehoods.

This is how I would define a GOOD SON. If we upheld this definition and practiced its truths, you tell me….Where would we be? 

• A Good Son that becomes a Good Man means to be respectful. Be honest. Be Humble.

• Loving. Encouraging. Trustworthy.

• Tough. Reliable. Hard Working.

• He doesn’t give up. He doesn’t make excuses. He is a Learner and a Fighter.

• He knows who he is and what he stands for. He extends a hand, and practices forgiveness.

• His deeds match his words. He helps those in need. Understands and appreciates sacrifice.

• He is devoted to God. Striving to do what is right, even when doing right is hard and unpopular.

And while this is not new, this is probably the part that demands even greater attention in the world our sons are living in….

Commit to reading the Bible to renew your mind to right thinking in a world that has morally slipped in a wrong direction.

Keep your heart pure. Do not put trust in riches. Be generous and kind.

In a day when the truth is slipping, and deceitfulness is on high — where people deny facts and truths that are common sense and that nature itself teaches.

It is imperative that we put the Word into our hearts.  Keeping it before our eyes and hearing it with our ears.

It’s equally important to verbalize the truth of God’s Word to ourselves thus strengthening the truth in us.

May we embrace the challenge and show up for our sons. Being and doing all the things listed in the definition to the very best of our ability.

Letting our actions speak and teach simultaneously.

On this day, and all days, let your sons - (son-in-laws included) and all the younger men who are your neighbors, friends, colleagues, know how much you admire them. You are proud of who they are and the man they are becoming.
