Faith Over Fame

Hey friends,

I want to introduce you to someone who has completely changed the way I look at hardship and purpose: Kamryn Babb. You might’ve heard his name tossed around in Buckeye football circles, but I promise you—his story is about way more than the game. It’s about faith, grit, and what it means to keep getting up when life keeps knocking you down.

He wasn’t on a stage with fireworks or fanfare. He was standing humbly in our boys’ school gymnasium, sharing his heart at the annual Athletic Boosters Auction. But the message he delivered? It carried more power than a packed-out stadium ever could.

In a world that often praises flash over faith, talent over tenacity, Kamryn’s journey stands out like a lighthouse in a storm. He’s living proof that God’s plan for us isn’t about perfection or protection from storms—it’s about surrender and faith.

So pull up a chair, grab your favorite Dulci treat, and let’s dig into one of the most powerful testimonies you’ll hear this year.

Let me paint the picture for you.

Kamryn Babb came into college football with all the hype and raw talent you could ask for. Ranked among the top wide receivers in the nation, he had every reason to believe he’d go straight to the NFL.

But life had other plans.

In the span of his time at Ohio State, Kamryn suffered not one, not two, but four season-ending knee injuries.

Let that sink in. Four.

Most people, including me, would’ve walked away after the second.

But Kam? He stayed until the third ACL tear. That was his pivotal breaking point. Understandably, he was going to quit and go back home to St. Louis.

When attempting to board the plane, due to an “unexplained reason” (according to the airline) his ticket would not process. While trying to get that error corrected, his plane left without him. Seriously, you can’t make this up.

This resulted in the airline booking him on the next available flight. That flight was several hours later so he went back to his apartment and made a second Uber trip to the airport. Just before getting out of the car is when God and The Holy Spirit grabbed hold of him.

Kam shared, “I can only best describe that moment as my 10 year old self being cold in a snow storm, and The Holy Spirit wrapping me in His arms, covering me with His warmth, and filling up my heart.”

He prayed. He fought. Not for stats or spotlight—but because he believed God had him there for a greater purpose.

“It was never about football,” Kamryn said. “It was about my faith.”

Now that’ll preach.

What Kamryn did next was nothing short of extraordinary.

In 2022, Kamryn finally stepped back on the field—and scored his first and only college touchdown.

The stadium? Erupted.
The teammates? Lifted him up.
Me and my family? Right there watching, with goosebumps.

I still remember my boys asking, “Dad, why is everyone cheering like that?”

Truthfully... I didn’t know. I didn’t know who Kam was. I didn’t know what he’d battled through.

But that next play, he caught the touchdown pass.

And suddenly, we all understood.

It wasn’t just a score.
It was a resurrection moment.

It was hope—in its purest, most powerful form.

Here’s what I want you to hold onto:
Hope is most potent when it shouldn’t exist.

Kamryn didn’t need a highlight reel to prove his worth. His testimony was the highlight. He was a two-time team captain, and a spiritual pillar in the locker room—not because of stats, but because of who he was when no one was watching.

His story reminds us that when the world sees broken, God sees a platform.

You might not be on a football field, but I’d bet you’ve felt like life benched you at some point.

Maybe it was a failed business. A relationship that didn’t go the distance. A dream deferred.

Kamryn’s story is an enlightening nudge reminding us that your value isn’t found in what you achieve—it’s in who you become when things don’t go your way.

That job you didn’t get? That door that slammed shut? Maybe, just maybe, God is positioning you for something greater.

At Dulci, we’re all about stories like Kamryn’s. Stories of faith, hope, and grit. A sweet reminder that even in the darkest moments, light breaks through.

This week, we invite you to share a story of Fatih, Hope, or Perseverance with someone you love.

P.S. In a quieter moment, Kamryn shared something with me and the students at DCS that I’ll never forget:

“Would I choose to go through five knee injuries and four ACL surgeries again? No, I wouldn’t want that pain. But… if that’s what it took for me to truly find Jesus and surrender my life to Him—then yes, I’d do it all over again.”
