Trust The Work

Regret. We’ve all felt it at some point. That nagging feeling of wishing we’d done something differently, acted sooner, or taken that bold step. But here’s the truth—life is too short for regrets of omission. It’s far better to try and fall short than to never try at all. This idea, as personal as it is powerful, is one I reflect on often, especially as I watch my son, Camden, navigate his own moments of hesitation. His struggle to take action despite putting in the hard work resonates deeply with me—and I’m sure it’ll resonate with you too.

Life often presents us with a choice: Do we stay where it’s safe, knowing the outcome, or do we step out, take the leap, and see what’s waiting on the other side? It’s a question we all face at different times in our lives—whether in business, relationships, or personal growth. The key? Trusting in the work we’ve done, trusting in ourselves, and having the faith to take that next step.

Take Camden, for example. He’s a 15-year-old who gives his all to improve his basketball skills. He practices tirelessly—ball handling, form shots, strength training—you name it, he’s doing it. Every day. And yet, when game time comes around, hesitation creeps in. What if he misses? What if he makes a mistake? It’s in those moments that his doubt takes over and paralyzes him.

This isn’t just a basketball problem. It’s a life problem. We all know what it’s like to work hard, prepare, and then freeze when it’s time to take action. The fear of failure, of making the wrong move, can be overwhelming. But here's what Camden—and all of us—need to realize: hesitation, fueled by fear, only holds us back. It’s like a basketball player hesitating at the rim, not trusting in their preparation. The best way to overcome fear is to trust in the work you’ve put in and take the shot anyway. Even when the odds seem against you.

I see Camden’s potential. I know he has the skill, the heart, and the drive. He just needs to trust that the work he’s put in is enough. I can’t help but feel the pain of watching him hesitate because I know what he’s capable of—and I know that this hesitation is only keeping him from stepping into his full potential.

So, how does Camden overcome this battle? How do we, as individuals, push past the fear and hesitation that paralyze us when it’s time to make a move? The answer is simple, though not always easy: Trust the work.  It’s a complex dance—being faithful with the opportunities God gives you while also trusting Him with the variables that are out of your control.

“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” —Proverbs 16:3 (ESV)

It sounds simple enough—to commit your work to the Lord. But it takes intentional effort, continual surrender, and genuine trust. It means believing in ourselves enough to take action, and trusting God’s plan even when the outcome is uncertain.  For Camden, this is the lesson I want him to learn: God has given him the talents, the drive, and the opportunity to succeed. But success doesn’t come by waiting for perfection—it comes by stepping out in faith, trusting in the preparation, and taking action. The same goes for all of us.

I want to ask you the same question I ask Camden: Are you ready to trust the work you’ve put in and step into what’s on the other side of hesitation?

Whether it’s a decision in your personal life, a step in your career, or a bold move in your business, there comes a point where hesitation no longer serves you. The work you’ve done has prepared you. The time you’ve invested has shaped you. Now, it’s time to move forward and trust that the future is waiting for you to take that first step.

Yes, the unknown can be scary. Yes, the outcome is never guaranteed. But in taking that step, you will discover a strength and confidence that will carry you through every challenge. And remember, when you trust the work and believe in your purpose, there’s no limit to what you can achieve.

As I pray for Camden, I also pray for you—my friends, our community—that you find the faith and confidence to trust the work you’ve put in. Just as God has brought you this far, He’s not done with you yet. There’s more on the other side of your hesitation. Step into it with faith, trust, and the courage to take action.

I believe in you. Your hard work, your faith, and your willingness to step forward will lead to extraordinary things. So go ahead—take the shot.
