This Isn't a Building. It's a Bond.

There are some weekends that change your perspective.

This was one of them.

This past Father's Day weekend I had the opportunity to speak at a camp for young men who have grown up without fathers in their homes. As I prepared, I thought I was writing a speech.

Instead, I discovered something about Dulci.

After the talk, we handed every young man a piece of chocolate.

Not because we wanted to advertise.

Not because we hoped they'd buy from us someday.

Because sometimes a simple piece of chocolate says something words can't.

It says,

"You matter."

A few days later, several ladies walked into our shop because they had heard us speak.

Of course I'm grateful they bought chocolate.

But what stayed with me wasn't the sale.

It was the realization that they weren't responding to chocolate.

They were responding to a mission.

For years we've said our purpose is to remind people they are worthy, valued, and loved.

This weekend I realized something even deeper.

Chocolate has never been the mission.

People are.

Chocolate is simply the vehicle.

Our new building will have chocolate.

It will have coffee.

It will have dipping classes.

It will have music.

It will have places to gather.

But none of those things are the point.

Community is.

Belonging is.

Creating moments where people remember they matter is.

That's why we do what we do.

Maybe that's true for all of us.

Perhaps the greatest purpose we'll ever discover isn't what we make.

It's how we make people feel while we're making it.

This week I was reminded that every business, every family, every friendship, and every conversation is an opportunity to leave someone feeling a little more seen than they did before.

I hope we never lose sight of that.
