The Sweet Gift of 51 Years
So here’s a fun fact that’s still sinking in for me… I just recently turned 51. 😳 Yup. Fifty-one.
Now before you ask, no, I’m not writing out 51 life lessons—that would take us well past your coffee break and maybe into your next meal. Instead, I’m sharing what I like to call: The Gifts of Lessons Learned. A collection of wisdom—some hard-won, some joyfully stumbled upon—that’s helped me get to this moment with a grateful heart and (mostly) healthy body.
Let’s unwrap a few of those lessons together.
💡 Lesson #1: The Daily Five
Every day, make space to Read, Think, Ask, Write, and File. It’s not glamorous, but it’s powerful. These simple habits sharpen your mind, capture your thoughts, and (bonus!) help you remember where you saved that genius idea from last Tuesday.
💛 Lesson #2: Values = Guardrails
Know what matters most. Your values shape your decisions—faith, family, friendship, work, health. Proverbs 4:23 says it best: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
🤦 Lesson #3: Don’t Marry the Mistake
Just because you spent time on something doesn’t mean you’re stuck with it. Mistakes? Learn from them. Excuses? Let them go. They’ll steal your joy faster than a kid snatching the last Brock Bite.
🤝 Lesson #4: Life Is a Team Sport
The best parts of my life? They all trace back to relationships. Whether it’s coaching my son’s team or building Dulci Sweets—it’s always about the people alongside you. We’re built to do life together.
🕰️ Lesson #5: Time > Money
Money’s renewable. Time isn’t. That’s why I walked away from a couple businesses and leaned into what matters most. I didn’t want to miss the game-winning shot—or the post-game ice cream run—with my kids.
Of course, I’ve learned more along the way: Gratitude changes everything. Blame fixes nothing. Consistency outpaces intensity. Faith reframes fear. And success? It’s just doing the next right thing with all your heart—even when it’s uphill.
Oh, and one more thing…
Your next act might just be your best one.
Nick Saban was 56 when Alabama called. John Wooden? 53 when he won his first title. So if you’re wondering whether your best is behind you—don’t. It may be just ahead.
So here’s to the journey so far—and the sweet road ahead.
Thank you, truly, for being part of this incredible community. For showing up, sharing goodness, and believing in what we’re building together at Dulci.
This birthday, I’m counting each of you as one of my greatest gifts.
With love and gratitude,
Your friend,
Brock
P.S. I promise this wasn’t just an excuse to eat an extra piece of birthday chocolate…but if it was, who could blame me? 😉 Speaking of sweet celebrations, if you’re craving something to share (or savor solo), come grab a treat at Dulci—where the Goodness is always Created to be Shared.
