The Ripple Effect of Kindness
November is a month full of meaning. It brings us Thanksgiving, Veterans Day, and the excitement of holiday shopping—but it’s also National Gratitude Month, a time to reflect and express thanks to those who bring blessings into our lives.
And today, we celebrate World Kindness Day—a reminder of how powerful kindness can be. Let me share a story with you that illustrates this perfectly.
It starts with Brian Anderson. One day, he saw an elderly lady stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire. Despite the initial hesitation she felt, Brian approached her with kindness and fixed her tire, getting his hands dirty in the process. When he finished, she tried to offer him payment, but Brian told her something that would change everything. He said, “If you want to repay me, just pass on the kindness to someone else in need when you can.”
Later that evening, the lady stopped by a small diner and was served by a waitress who was visibly exhausted, yet still managed to greet her with a warm smile. The lady couldn’t help but notice how kind and friendly the waitress was, despite her obvious tiredness. Something about her struck a chord. As she finished her meal, the lady paid her bill with a $100 bill, leaving a note that read: “You don’t owe me anything. Somebody helped me today, just like I want to help you. Please, pass it on.”
As the waitress found the note and the extra money, she wondered how the lady could possibly know how much her family needed that money right now. Her husband was stressed, and she was worried about him, too. She couldn’t wait to get home to share the good news with him.
When she arrived home, she kissed her husband and whispered, “Now everything will be okay.” In that moment, the ripple effect of kindness became clear. What started as a small act of generosity had touched someone else’s life in a way she never could have predicted.
You see, kindness is never really lost. It may not come back in the exact same moment, and it might not always look the way you expect it to. But when you give, when you help, when you show kindness and share abundance with others, it always comes back. And often, it comes back multiplied.
So here’s my question: What if you knew for sure that everything you did for others—whether it’s lending a hand, offering a kind word, or sharing a gift—would eventually come back to you, but in a bigger way?
Would you go out of your way to spread kindness? Would you look for every opportunity to help others? What if I told you that every time you choose to act with kindness, you're not just giving—it’s building something even bigger?
