He Didn’t Hesitate
Hey friend,
Today is a big day in the Meadows household. Our oldest son, Camden, turns 17.
I could tell you all about his love for soccer, track, training, or how much he can eat in a single sitting. But instead, I want to share a moment with you that took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes. A moment that spoke volumes about who Camden is becoming. And more importantly, whose he knows he is.
A few weeks ago, Nicole, Camden, and I were attending a business training event. The guy leading the discussion asked a powerful question.
“What emotion do you think a person should feel after working with you?”
The question was directed toward the adults in the room. But before anyone else spoke, Camden raised his hand.
“I’ll answer that,” he said with quiet confidence.
“Hope.”
The room paused. The speaker smiled and nodded. That could have been the end. But Camden continued.
“Yes, hope that we can help them accomplish what they set out to do. But if we do it really well... then it's hope eternal. Introducing them, or maybe reminding them, of the living water that never runs dry.”
Those were his exact words.
Dead. Silence.
You could feel the weight of those words settle in the room.
It was like everyone exhaled at once and just sat in it.
Then, without skipping a beat, not even realizing the impact of his words, Camden turned slightly to his left, looked at me, and said with a smile,
“Right, Dad?”
Trying my best to keep it together to respond with words, I nodded and said, Right Indeed, Son
In that moment, I saw more than just my son. I saw a young man deeply rooted in something unshakeable. He didn’t speak from a desire to impress. He didn’t perform. He simply shared who he is, grounded in truth, led by faith, and confident in Christ.
And as I sat there stunned, smiling, and a tear in my eye, here’s what hit me:
In a world obsessed with outcomes, accomplishments, status, achievements—Camden reminded me, and everyone in the room, that identity must come first.
As we enter week 3 in the new year, goals have been flying left and right.
Lose the weight.
Grow the business.
Run the marathon.
Read more, stress less, hustle harder...
New habits. Big plans. Let’s GO!!!
And while all of that can be helpful, it can also be deceiving. It can lead us to believe that our worth is in what we do. That our value lies in our outcomes. That we are only as good as our goals.
But friend, that’s not the truth.
Before we chase any outcome, we must rest in our identity. The unshakable truth that:
-
You are known by name.
-
You are made on purpose.
-
You are loved without condition.
Your identity is not in the promotion you get, the pounds you lose, the platform you grow, or the plans you make.
Your identity is in the One who called you His. You are made in the image of God. And that matters more than any result you will ever produce.
So here’s the invitation.
Don’t just set goals this year. Set your heart on who you already are.
You are:
-
Loved, not for what you do, but for who you are.
-
Chosen, not because you earned it, but because He called you.
-
Redeemed, not by performance, but by grace.
Let’s reframe this season.
Let’s start from identity, not from effort.
You are His. And that is enough.
From my heart to yours, Camden’s words will stay with me for the rest of my life. And today, on his 17th birthday, I just wanted to share this moment with you, because it reminded me of you too.
You're part of this community because you believe in something deeper. You care about family, about faith, and about goodness that lasts. And just like Camden, I believe you're here to bring Hope Eternal to those around you.
Let’s live and give from that place.
With gratitude and faith,
Brock
P.S. Celebrating identity doesn’t mean we skip the sweetness of life’s blessings! 🎁
