Stories have a magical way of weaving life lessons, and this one's a gem. While the author of this story is unknown, it presents a beautiful message and shares a most important truth…
To accept oneself as he/she is, and to celebrate the uniqueness that God created in each of us.
May it bless and encourage you to shine your light as bright as possible.
A water-bearer had two large pots, both hung on the ends of a pole, which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.
At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot always arrived half full.
The poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.
After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water-bearer one day by the stream: ‘I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you.
I have been able to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house.
Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work, and you don’t get full value from your efforts.’
The bearer said to the pot, ‘Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of the path, but not on the other pot’s side? That’s because I have always known about your flaw, and I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you’ve watered them.
Puzzled, the Cracked pot wondered what on-earth the water-bearer’s words meant. He seemed to be suggesting that its story of lack, unworthiness and shame, was in some way faulty. As to how this could be, it could not comprehend.
For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house.’
Now, the cracked pot understood. Now the cracked pot began to see itself in a new light. Now it understood that indeed it had been telling itself a faulty story.
If its’ experience of being a ‘cracked pot’ was going to change then it would have to change the story that it was telling itself.
Thankfully, God uses cracked pots!
You do not need to be perfect for God to use you. We need to accept our personal challenges as part of our beautiful individuality and direct our attention to our own personal gifts and the good we can do.
We want our lives to count for something. If you want to be useful to God, know that you are loved, and do all the good you can with all you have been given, right where you are.
Go out boldly, knowing that in our weakness we find His strength, and that "In Him every one of God's promises is a Yes."
YES! You are wonderfully made,
Brock
