Devotion and Honor

“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
Romans 12:10

Let me ask you something that might sit with you for a minute.

When people think about you someday, what will stand out most?
Your accomplishments?
Or how well you loved?

This is our final message in The Matters of the Heart series. And we are ending with two words that sound simple but will stretch you for a lifetime.

Devotion.
Honor.

You were never created to do life alone. From the beginning, God designed us for family and community. Not isolation. Not independence at all costs. We were meant to belong. We were meant to walk with one another.

But devotion is not convenient.

Devotion means staying when it would be easier to step back.
It means showing up when no one applauds.
It means walking with someone through grief, tension, awkward seasons, and unanswered questions.

Because devotion costs something.

Time.
Energy.
Ego.

But the most beautiful relationships in your life?
They were built on someone choosing to stay.

And honor? Honor is not flattery.

It is not pretending everything is perfect.

It is choosing to see someone’s value even when you see their flaws.

It is speaking well of them when they are not in the room.

It is celebrating their win when yours has not arrived yet.

Honor requires humility.

And if we are honest, putting others first is a daily challenge.

Everything around us pushes self promotion, recognition, and status.

But Scripture calls us higher. It calls us to put others above ourselves.

That requires constant attention.

So let’s pause for a real moment of reflection.

How did you love this past week?
Who did you honor above yourself?
Where did you choose encouragement over criticism?
Where did you choose pride instead of humility?

No guilt. Just awareness.

Because loving people well is not automatic.

It is intentional.

It is practiced.

It is sacred.

At Dulci Sweets, we say Goodness Created to be Shared. And that goes far beyond chocolate.

Extraordinary chocolates, purposeful messages is part of our mission. But the deeper mission is this. To remind people they are worthy, valued, and loved.

That is devotion.
That is honor.
That is the heart that truly matters.

Here is your challenge.

Write down two specific ways you will love someone well this week.

Call them. Encourage them. Forgive them. Serve them. Celebrate them.

Do not wait for the feeling.

Choose the action.

Who in your life needs more devotion and honor from you right now? Reply and tell me one name. Let’s make this personal.
