Are You Pointing… or Walking?

Hey friends,

Let me ask you something.

When someone in your life is struggling, confused, overwhelmed, maybe even a little lost…

Do you point them in the right direction?

Or do you walk with them?

There’s a big difference.

And this month, as we talk about what it means to Be a Person Worth Following, I think this question matters more than ever.

The Store Test

You’ve lived this.

You walk into a store and ask where something is.

Average response?
“It’s three aisles down. On the left.”

Efficient.
Detached.
Forgettable.

But exceptional?

“Come on, I’ll take you.”

They leave what they’re doing.
They walk beside you.
They stay until you find it.

And something shifts inside you.

You feel seen.
You feel helped.
You feel valued.

And you think,
“That’s different.”

That’s leadership.

Not pointing.

Walking.

People Aren’t Looking for Instructions

They’re looking for someone steady.

Our world is full of noise. Opinions. Hot takes. Advice.

But beneath all that?

People are quietly asking:

Am I doing this right?
Does my life matter?
Is anyone with me?

Your teenager may not need another rule.

Your employee may not need another correction.

Your spouse may not need another solution.

They might just need you.

Present.
Consistent.
Walking.

This Is Where It Gets Personal

Because here’s the hard truth.

It’s easier to point.

“Here’s what you should do.”
“Here’s what needs to change.”
“Here’s the standard.”

Pointing costs almost nothing.

Walking costs time.
Patience.
Humility.

Walking means slowing down.
Listening longer.
Living what you’re asking others to live.

So let me gently ask you…

Where are you pointing… but not walking?

With your kids?
With your team?
With your faith?

Are you modeling what you expect?

Because someone is already following you.

The only question is…
Are they following something worth following?

Jesus did not stand at a distance and shout instructions.

He said, “Follow me.”

And then He walked.

That is influence.
That is love.
That is leadership.

Your Challenge This Week

Choose one person.

Instead of fixing them…

Walk with them.

Instead of giving advice…

Give presence.

Instead of saying, “Here’s what to do…”

Say, “I’m with you.”

That’s how trust grows.
That’s how families strengthen.
That’s how cultures change.

That’s how you become a person worth following.

And that’s how we live out Goodness Created to be Shared.

Gratefully Serving People Who Love Extraordinary Chocolate,

Your friend,
Brock

P.S. Employee Appreciation Day is Friday. Still time. But barely.

Great leaders do not miss moments to walk with their people.

And extraordinary leaders give Extraordinary chocolates, purposeful messages.
