Are You Drifting Without Even Knowing It?

Hey friends,

Ever been driving down the highway, lost in thought, only to realize you've drifted dangerously close to the edge of your lane?

You didn't intend to. You weren't trying to change direction. Your attention simply wandered.

Life works much the same way, doesn't it?

We get busy. Responsibilities pile up. Success brings new opportunities. And before we know it, we've drifted away from the very One who gives our lives direction.

Here's the uncomfortable truth.

You can be moving forward in life while drifting backward in your relationship with God.

A Powerful Reminder Close to Home

I recently had the privilege of attending the CBMC National Conference, hosted right here in Columbus, Ohio.

My good friend Jared Weston, CBMC's Columbus regional director, has been doing incredible work growing this ministry. And I'm telling you, something special is happening!

God is moving. Men are being encouraged, equipped, and empowered to live their faith with greater purpose.

Among the many powerful reminders, one especially struck me.

One of the greatest antidotes to pride, success, and spiritual drift is PRAYER.

Not merely the hurried, check-it-off-the-list kind.

I'm talking about pulling up a chair. Closing the door. Putting away distractions. And spending genuine, uninterrupted time with our Heavenly Father.

The Danger Isn't Always the Storm

Think about it.

When life gets difficult, we're often quick to fall to our knees. We recognize how desperately we need God's wisdom and strength.

But what happens when life is going well?

When business is growing? When the family is healthy? When opportunities multiply?

Without realizing it, we can begin relying more on ourselves and less on the One who blessed us.

That's drift.

And the enemy doesn't always need a disaster to pull us off course. Sometimes, all he needs is a crowded calendar and a whole lot of tomorrow.

Tomorrow I'll pray longer. Tomorrow I'll open my Bible. Tomorrow I'll slow down.

Sound familiar?

It sure does to me.

Pull Up a Chair

Something Jared emphasized really stuck with me: We need to connect men to the Source.

I believe that applies to every one of us.

Not just Sunday. Not only when we're struggling. But daily, intentionally, repeatedly.

Psalm 46:10 reminds us, "Be still, and know that I am God."

For people like me who love building, doing, and moving forward, being still can be downright difficult!

But prayer isn't only about talking. Sometimes it's about listening, asking questions, acknowledging our weaknesses, and surrendering control.

Because staying connected helps us recognize when we're drifting.

So here's my encouragement this week.

Pull up a chair. Close the door. Put the phone down. Spend time with the One who knows you best.

And I'd genuinely love to hear from you:

What's the biggest distraction keeping you from spending intentional time with God?

Hit reply. Let's encourage one another.

Praying you find more stillness, greater clarity, and renewed connection this week.

Your friend,

Brock

P.S. Isn't it something? We'll charge our phones before they hit 10%, but sometimes try running our souls on empty for days! Maybe it's time we got serious about staying connected to the only Source that never runs out of power. 😊
