A Party Trick That’s Actually Life-Changing

It was one of those bluebird mornings in Garden of the Gods, right outside Colorado Springs. The kind of day where the sky feels impossibly big, the red rock formations glow in the morning sun, and the world feels perfectly still—like it’s holding its breath, waiting for something good.

As they strolled down the trail, coffee in hand, Mitch turned to his wife, Julia, and said with a grin and asked,

“Babe… the Powerball’s over a billion. Be honest—what would we do if we won it?”

They laughed at first, tossing out the fun answers.

“Well,” Julia said, “We’d probably snag a little condo in Charleston, South Carolina for beach days, maybe a ski cabin up in Breckenridge for winter adventures.”

But then Julia’s voice softened. “And honestly… we’d have a home back in Bowling Green, Ohio. Close to family. Our church. Our friends. Close to the community and people who shaped us.”

And then… they both paused.

Mitch stopped, hands on his hips, staring out at Pikes Peak towering in the distance.

Then came the question—the one that neither of them could unhear:

“Wait… what are we doing living in Colorado? If that’s the life we really want… why are we waiting for a lottery ticket to live it?”

So often, what we think is a financial problem is actually a fear problem.

It’s the illusion of “someday” that steals the joy of today.

Time and again, when people answer these questions, something clicks.

They realize the life they crave—the one filled with more family dinners, slower mornings, deeper connections, meaningful work, and joyful moments—doesn’t require a billion-dollar check.

It just requires boldness.
A little less distraction.
A little more intentionality.
And maybe… one brave decision.

That’s exactly what Mitch and Julia realized on that walk. And less than a year later? They made the move back home.

Not because they hit the jackpot—but because they stopped waiting for permission to live the life God had already put on their hearts.
